Reading Resolutions Revisited: May 2016

Welcome back to another installment of my new Monthly Reading Resolutions updates. I decided I wouldn’t participate in many official challenges this year; instead I created some Reading Resolutions. This post is my attempt to keep track of how I’m getting on with reading and blogging.

Books I’ve Read

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

Reader, I Married Him edited by Tracy Chevalier

Flights of Fantasy

Seems I’ve unintentionally had a Fantasy-free month, so my total for this challenge remains at 4 books read.

Goodreads

I set myself a target of 25 books this year. So far I’ve read 13 books.

Goals

I’m still managing to post my reviews promptly after finishing a book, although this month I’ve read so little this hasn’t really been an issue.

I participated in the latest Bout of Books. I don’t feel as though I’ve taken part in many reading events so far this year, so if there’s anything coming up do please let me know.

So concludes May’s Monthly Reading Resolutions update. Have you signed up for any challenges this year, or are you taking a more general approach to reading?
See you again next month!

Reading Resolutions Revisited: March 2016

Welcome back to another instalment of my new Monthly Reading Resolutions updates. I decided I wouldn’t participate in many official challenges this year, apart from Flights of Fantasy, so instead I created some Reading Resolutions. This post is my attempt to keep track of how I’m getting on with reading and blogging.

Books I’ve Read

The Crimson Campaign by Brian McClellan

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

Total Library Books Read This Month: 2
Total Own Books Read This Month: 0
Overall Total Books Read This Month: 2

Total Library Books Read 2016: 6

FLIGHTS OF FANTASY

The Crimson Campaign by Brian McClellan

My new total for Flights of Fantasy now stands at 3 books read.

Goodreads

I set myself a target of 25 books for this year. I’ve currently read 6 books.

GOALS

I finally got around to starting one of the new posts I’d hoped to write on the blog, Beyond the Books. I enjoyed writing about non-bookish things for a change, so it will probably become a once in a while feature here. Never fear, I’m still 99% bookish content.

I’ve also managed to maintain my goal of posting about a book almost as soon as I’ve finished reading it. I do still have a backlog of reviews, which I’ll definitely post sometime in the future.

As for my own books? Predictably they’re still languishing on the bookshelves completely untouched. I recently discovered the new library e-book system which is great, so the problem of neglecting my own books will probably continue. Shameful, isn’t it?!

Hopefully I’ll meet more of my goals as the year progresses.

So concludes March’s (!) Monthly Reading Resolutions update. Have you signed up for any challenges this year, or are you taking a more general approach to reading?

Reading Resolutions Revisited: February 2016

Welcome back to another instalment of my new Monthly Reading Resolutions updates. I decided I wouldn’t participate in many official challenges this year, apart from Flights of Fantasy, so instead I created some Reading Resolutions. This post is my attempt to keep track of how I’m getting on with reading and blogging.

Books I’ve Read

The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine by Alexander McCall Smith

The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson

Blood on Snow by Jo Nesbo

FLIGHTS OF FANTASY

The Emperor’s Soul by Brandon Sanderson

My new total for Flights of Fantasy now stands at 2 books read.

Goodreads

I set myself a target of 25 books for this year. I’ve currently read 4 books.

GOALS

I’ve managed to maintain my goal of actually writing my book review almost as soon as I’ve finished reading the book and getting it posted on my blog, so I’m happy about that.

I really want to try and read some of my own books but my pile of library books never seems to get reduced so I don’t know when that will start to happen.

Here ends February’s Monthly Reading Resolutions update.
Have you signed up for any challenges this year, or are you taking a more general approach to reading?

Reading Resolutions Revisited: January 2016

Welcome to my new Monthly Reading Resolutions update.
I haven’t signed up for many official challenges for 2016, instead choosing to make some general hopes and goals, which you can read in my Reading Resolutions post. This is my attempt to keep track of how I’m getting on with reading and blogging.

Books I’ve Read this month

Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan

Total Library Books Read: 1
Total Own Books Read: 0
Total Books Read: 1

FLIGHTS OF FANTASY

Apart from Goodreads this is the only official challenge I’ve decided to participate in during 2016 because Fantasy is a fairly new discovery for me and there are so many authors and books I want to read. So far in 2016:

Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan

My total for the challenge is currently 1 book read.

Goodreads

I set my total low this year, mainly because I want to take time between finishing one book and starting another to get my blog post together, which was one of my Resolutions, so I’m aiming for 25 books with the hope that I’ll be able to increase that total as the year goes on.

My current total is 1 book read.

Goals

I stuck to my idea of actually writing and putting my review up on the blog as soon as I’d finished reading the book, so that’s a good start.

I participated in Bout of Books and kept my blog updated each day with my progress.

Hopefully I’ll meet more of my goals as the year progresses.

So, there ends my first Monthly Reading Resolutions update. Have you signed up for any challenges this year, or are you taking a more general approach to reading?
See you again next month!

Reading Resolutions 2016

Last year I participated in a number of Reading Challenges with varying levels of success.
I enjoyed taking part in all of them and my total failure at my TBR Challenge, reading books I already owned, confirmed what I’ve already known for a while – I’m a massive fan of the library. I don’t think I realised quite the extent to which I rely on the library for new reading material actually.

While the challenges were fun, I’ve decided to try something different in 2016.
I will be participating in the Goodreads challenge, as I’ve done that one for a number of years, and Flights of Fantasy 2016, but other than that I will create a list of Reading Resolutions.
This is my list of reading hopes and goals, and a few books I REALLY want to read in the coming year (mostly from my TBR, so doesn’t include new releases).
I’ll still do a monthly update about my progress and might add to this list as time progresses.

Reading Resolutions

Books to Read:

The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling (re-read)
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Thief’s Magic by Trudi Canavan
Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan
The Cuckoo’s Calling + rest of series by Robert Galbraith
The North and South trilogy by John Jakes (re-read)
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (re-read)
The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher

General Goals:

  • To participate in as many reading events and readathons as I can and keep my blog regularly updated with progress.
  • To introduce a few new features to my blog. I’ve had them in mind for a while now and a new year seems like the perfect time to begin.
  • To catch up on outstanding reviews – I make MASSES of notes whilst reading and just after reading a book, but for some reason I’ve fallen behind on getting reviews up on the blog, so this year I hope to complete and publish my reviews soon after finishing the book.
  • To TRY and make a better effort to stop neglecting the books I already own.
  • To read a variety of genres, but also carry on indulging my love of fantasy/dystopia/post apocalypse stories.
  • Non Fiction? It’s not something I would usually go for, but for variety, I may give some a try, and would be happy to hear any recommendations.
  • To keep a monthly update post going to record how well I’m doing in keeping to my goals in terms of blogging and reading.

Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge 2016

The Flights of Fantasy reading challenge is hosted by Alexa Loves Books and Rachel of Hello, Chelly. You can find full details and sign up at either of the links provided – simply set yourself a target number of Fantasy novels to read during 2016.
I participated in this challenge last year and really enjoyed finding new books to read, so there was no way I could resist signing up again for 2016.
I am setting myself a target of 10 novels. Hopefully I will be able to read more.
I’ve also made myself a list of books I would like to try and read, mostly just to prompt my memory, but if you can recommend any great fantasy novels then please let me know.
