Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Click on the link for more info and to find out about future topics.
This weeks theme is: Books I Hoped to Read in 2018… But Didn’t!
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden – I’m actually amazed that this book makes an appearance on this list for the two reasons… 1. I really loved The Bear and the Nightingale. 2. I requested The Winter of the Witch from the library long before it was due to be released. At this rate my request will arrive before I’ve even had chance to read the second book. To the top of Mount TBR it must go!
Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie – Did I think I’d wait until closer to the new movie adaptation to read this? I can’t think why else I haven’t gotten around to it yet given my newfound enjoyment of all things Christie.
Early Riser by Jasper Fforde – I was and still am very much looking forward to the latest read from Jasper Fforde. Soon, I hope…
Melmoth by Sarah Perry – I want to try my best to read this before the dark nights and cold days of winter depart, because I have a feeling that it’s a book to be savoured in those exact surroundings.
Elevation by Stephen King – How is it possible that a Stephen King book is appearing here!?! A new SK novel and I didn’t read it right away? Something’s definitely not right with that picture.
Salvation by Peter F. Hamilton – Picked up after reading Adrift by Rob Boffard. I enjoyed that book so much that I decided I’d like to try more Science Fiction and I’d heard good things about Hamilton’s books. Still cannot comment myself though as Salvation remains unread so far.
The Mitford Murders by Jessica Fellowes – Another book that caught my eye enough to end up on the TBR pile but so far it never managed to reach the top.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt -Now I’m not at all surprised to find this title lingering on the list; it’s made several appearances on similar lists for I don’t even want to guess how many years now. Why has this book never reached the top of my TBR? The only explanation I have is that I actually bought a copy, and I always find myself setting aside my own titles for library books with other requests on them.
Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett – I bought this, which probably means it lost out to a library book when I last went to my TBR mountain.
Circe by Madeline Miller – No idea. I just do not know why this exceptionally pretty looking book is still unread on my pile.
Have you read any of the books that made my list this week, and what did you think of them? Which books did you really hope to read last year?
