It’s time for another read-a-thon. This will be the second time I’ve participated in such an event, and since starting my book blogging adventures I think it’s a really good way to engage with people about books and what they’re currently reading. So, here’s a little more information about it:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
Time Devoted to Reading
I will try to read for at least half an hour each day during the read-a-thon.
To complete The Book Of Life
To read more of The Summer Without You
To start We Were Liars
To write reviews for each of these books
Books to Read
The Book Of Life
The Summer Without You
We Were Liars
General update on what I hope to read during this read-a-thon. I’m starting with The Book of Life, which I will be continuing throughout Monday. I’ll also read some more of The Summer Without You during the first days of the event too, then move onto We Were Liars later in the week. If I finish any/all of these I’ll try to get my reviews posted quite quickly, so I guess that’s another goal as well.
Tuesday (Monday’s progress)
On Monday I read 106 pages of The Book Of Life. It’s such a great book that I’m torn between wanting to plough on really quickly, but wanting to draw it out for as long as possible because I really don’t want it to end. To distract myself and slow myself down a bit I keep looking at reviews for We Were Liars online, and I must admit I’m finding it pretty difficult to resist picking that book up right away. I want to finish BoL first though, so its onwards with that book for me.
Wednesday (Tuesday’s progress)
On Tuesday I had a good reading day, and completed 50 pages of The Summer Without You, and 60 pages of The Book of Life, which I’m still really enjoying. I know I’m going to reach the end of this book within a day or so, so still find myself reading more slowly, savouring each page. On the positive side, once I’ve finished it, at some point I can go back to the first book in the series and start the whole lot again, this time reading straight through with no waiting in between each book, which will be great.
Number of pages I’ve read today: 110
Total number of pages I’ve read: 216
Thursday (Wednesday’s progress)
I finished reading The Book Of Life, and posted my review here.
Once I’d finished that I finally picked up We Were Liars. I haven’t read enough of this yet to count towards my total, but am hoping to have a good reading day today and make some progress with it. From the little I have read, I’m already anticipating a great read, so I hope I’m right.
Number of pages I’ve read today: 92
Total number of pages I’ve read: 308
Friday (Thursday’s progress)
Thursday was a great day of reading for me as I finally delved into We Were Liars. This book is such a great read, it’s one that’s going to stay with me for a while I think. I’m half way through, and will probably finish it tomorrow, but I’d already recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I’ve been a bit negligent towards The Summer Without You, so will try to read a bit more of that book over the coming days too. I can’t believe we’re into the latter stages of the read-a-thon already; this week has gone far too quickly. Whatever will we do once it’s over?!
Number of pages I’ve read today: 110
Total number of pages I’ve read: 418
Saturday (Friday’s progress)
On Friday I finished reading We Were Liars. WHAT A BOOK!! You can find my review here (I gave the book 5 stars). Didn’t get much else done in the way of reading as I was trying to write my Liars review, which was really challenging as to give away too much about the story would be to spoil it, and I really don’t want to do that, for if you choose to read the book then you’re in for a treat.
Number of pages I’ve read today: 118
Total number of pages I’ve read: 536
Sunday (Saturday’s progress)
Saturday was a slower reading day, and I managed to read a little more of The Summer Without You. I also started reading Wake by Anna Hope, which I think is going to be good. I didn’t get much reading done as I spent a great deal of time wandering around the bookshop finding a pile of new books I may be interested in reading in the future, and buying some little arrow shaped page markers because I always find paragraphs or quotes that I know I’ll want to come back to before I finish a book once and for all.
I can’t believe this is the last day of this read-a-thon. It’s been brilliant, and I’ve really enjoyed it.
Number of pages I’ve read today: 70
Total number of pages I’ve read: 606
Monday (Sunday’s progress and final thoughts)
